Overall Review
Well, it might seem strange for some of you that I am writing about my own city in this travel blog but I could not just skip it as it is my favourite place in the world!
Yerevan is the capital of Armenia, a beautiful country with an ancient history, located in the middle of East and West. There are many other places to visit in my country but here I will focus on Yerevan!
Nowadays, it’s a dynamic city with a huge potential for development. You can go to see the ancient books in the morning, visit the oldest churches in the afternoon and enjoy your dinner while listening to jazz and drinking a glass of famous Armenian cognac in the evening!
By the way Yerevan is often called "Pink city" because of the colour of the stone used for buildings :)
General Tips:
- Yerevan is one of the safest cities in the world! So, don’t be afraid to stay up till late at night!
- The best time to visit Yerevan is summer/autumn as the weather is great and also you can enjoy a huge variety of fruits and vegetables!
- The buses and marshrutkas (minivans) are the main means of transportation (subway is rarely being used). However, the taxis are cheap, besides the city is small, so most probably you will pay only 3-4$ for a trip!
- If you have the chance to go to an Armenian family, please remember that Armenians are very hospitable (especially moms and grandmas) so they will try to persuade you to eat as much as possible. Even if you are not hungry try to eat a little bit in order not to hurt their feelings.
To see:
- Cascade
- Matenadaran
- Tsitsernakaberd (Memorial Complex dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide)
- Republic Square (make sure you see the dancing fountains in the evening)
- Vernissage Market (The best places for buying souvenirs and handcrafts )
- Parpetsi Street famous as a pub street
To eat:
Armenian cuisine has various dishes which you must try while you travel to Yerevan! Here are some of them:
- Dolma
- Khash (try it in the morning)
- Shaurma (one of the best ones is Tumanyani Shaurma which is located just at Tumanyan Street)
- Harissa
- Khorovats
- Lahmajoun
- Gata (as a dessert)
- Tan (to drink). It looks like milk but has a different flavour and is salty.
To spend:
The great thing about Yerevan is that it is relatively cheap! For one day you will approximately need to spend 80$ (including accommodation, 3 times meal, entertainment and transportation).
Please note that the above mentioned amount of money is only estimated cost and your actual trip expenses might vary depending on your interests and choices.
