Langkawi

Overall Review:

Langkawi is an exceptionally beautiful island located in Malaysia. It comprises 99 big and small islands in Andaman sea. Blue sky, green water and many many tasty and cheap cocktails. That’s what you should expect from there.

Still not enough? Then you can try out their various types of water sports or different tours (such as Mangrove tour, Island hopping or the dinner at the sunset).

However, to be fair I need to mention that the place is not very suitable for solo traveller as the majority of tourists are families mainly coming from arabic countries or China or groups of backpackers from Europe (becoming less and less year after year).

What I liked the most: the beautiful scenery and especially the tour “dinner at sunset” as I had one of the most beautiful moments in my life.

What I disliked the most: infrastructure not quite developed yet; another thing was that the majority of places were closed by 10.

General Tips:

- Langkawi is a very picturesque place but there are not many different things to do except of the tours and water sports. Hence, 3-4 days are totally enough unless you need an endless relax on the beach.

- The whole island is a duty free zone so alcohol and chocolate are super cheap. However, only 1l per luggage is permitted while leaving the island.

- Most of the hotels have a swimming pool. But in case you also want to enjoy the view of the sea just from your pool Best Star hotel is not bad.

- Taxis have fixed prices depending on where you go. You can see the price on the printed paper at every taxi station.

- The most famous club (and almost the only one) is Sumba. That’s the place where everyone comes after work, so most probably you will also see the guy who was serving you at the restaurant standing by the bar and grabbing a bottle of beer.

To see:

- Mangrove Tour

- Dinner at the Sunset

- Island Hopping

- Sky Cable (together with 3D Museum which are in the same area)

To eat:

There are many types of cuisine on the island but below is the list of my fav restaurants there

- Telaga Seafood and Arabic Cuisine (prawns were extremely delicious)

- Yasmin Arabic food (try their tabuleh)

- Red Tomato (Caesar was great)

- Burgersmith (you can make your own burger)

To spend:

Langkawi offers different types of resort according to your budget. If you are a mid-range traveller then you will probably need 40-60$ per day (including stay in a cheap hotel, 1 tour, 3 times meal and 1 or 2 cocktails in the evening).

Please note that the above mentioned amount of money is only estimated cost and your actual trip expenses might vary depending on your interests and choices.

One of the most memorable moments of the trip!
