Overall Review:
Shanghai will always stay special for me as it was the first place where I had the courage to travel alone. Maybe I was too excited to explore a new city or just the fact that I had lived in Beijing for almost a year made me fear nothing.
Shanghai is the most developed city of China and as it was a French colony in 1900’s it is a beautiful mixture of modern skyscrapers and European architecture.
The city is international and full of life. Just wandering in the streets is enough to feel the pulse of the city.
I stayed in Shanghai for 3 days and it was the perfect amount of time needed to explore the main spots of the city. However, one thing is for sure Shanghai is a place where one should return again and again as there is always a new thing to explore.
General Tips:
- Shanghai is a big city and the best way to get into the city centre is to use the subway. So, you should better download the subway application in advance to know your way out to the city!
- If you do not have much time Bus Tour is a good way to explore the main sightseeing spots! You can hop on the bus at People’s Square.
Too see:
- Oriental Pearl Tower ( note that the queue for going upstairs is huuuuge; I had to wait for 2,5 hours until I had the chance to get inside, however the view from above is totally worth it). By the way you can also check out the History Museum located on the first floor of the tower.
- French Confession Area. That was one of my fav places in Shanghai as it gives you the impression of being in Europe. Give yourself a short rest after walking long distances, drink a cup of coffee and enjoy a delicious dessert in one of the nicest cafés in the area (Element Fresh is highly recommended)
- Zhujiajiao Watertown (Trying local fish is a must)
- Disneyland
- Tim Burton's Museum
- Yuyuan Garden
- Jing'An Temple (taking pictures in the temple is not really recommended)
To eat:
I am sure that there are hundreds of famous restaurants in Shanghai, however I was recommended to go to the most popular one to eat dumplings. The restaurant is called Lu Bo Lang and is located near Yuyuan Garden.
To spend:
Shanghai is a developed city with relatively high prices. You will probably need around 80-100$ to spend for a day (including accommodation in a mid-class hotel, transportation, 3 times meal in Chinese Restaurants and entertainment).
Please note that the above mentioned amount of money is only estimated cost and your actual trip expenses might vary depending on your interests and choices.
