Jakarta

Overall Review:

I have been in Jakarta on my way to Bali. Despite all the bad feedback that I had heard and also read on various websites I have decided to spend a whole day there. According to many travellers, it was better to stay at the hotel rather than to go out as Jakarta is not considered a touristic city. But all those things could not stop me as I was a solo traveller full of excitement towards the exploration of a new city!

My first shock was at the time when instead of a car taxi I saw dozens of motorbike taxis which was a common thing there. So, the driver put my luggage (somehow) on the motorbike after which we got on the bike and started our way. We have spent a lot of time on finding my hotel but thanks God eventually we succeeded.

After leaving my stuff and getting a shower I decided to dive in the city!

Jakarta, being the capital of Indonesia, is an important business place for the country as well as for the SouthEast Asian area. However, I need to admit that it does not contain any touristic spots or anything that would arouse one's interest.

As always, while travelling alone, I met some local people and asked for tips about where to go. The answers were not concrete and one of them told me to go back to my hotel. However, another guy suggested showing me around and honestly there was literally nothing to see.

General Tips:

Indonesia is a muslim country and Jakarta is quite conservative. So, better wear appropriate clothes (however you do not need to cover your head).

As I have already mentioned above it is not a touristic place so better not to stay more than a day!

To eat:

Indonesian cuisine is pretty famous so if you are by any chance in Jakarta do not miss out the exotic food. Among the most popular dishes are Satay and Nasi Padang.

To spend:

As there are not many places to go you will probably be ok spending just 30-40 $ per day (Including hostel and 3 times meal per day).
